Dance Parade 2017

We were thrilled to be dancing down Broadway at the 11th Annual Dance Parade. I had put out a call for RL alumni to participate, and we were happy to add Jupiter and his spouse Doug to our parade group, as well as our "support" people Leo and Ivana.

The day did not look especially promising, weather-wise, and it was somewhat cool, cloudy and at times, drizzly. However, it always lifts my spirits to see all kinds of dancers and people come together in a celebration. We had to wait longer than usual to kick- off, but once it got started, it was on! Since we had our big RL banner with us, and not enough support to hold it, we changed our "marching " strategy a little and had some of the dancers performing in front of the banner, and some holding it, alternating personnel at times.

The spectators were spread out, as usual, but they were generally excited to see the vast display of humanity doing what they do on this day. One thing we'll try to do for next time is have a support person just take video of us doing our routines (this year we did merengue and cha-cha), so we're not at the mercy of random photographers/videographers. So far in my You Tube search, I found this www.youtube.com/watch?v=d90JZMquZz8&t=2369s - you can see a short clip of us at around the 38:00 minute mark. We did get to perform a piece of our cha-cha routine in front of the Grandstand at Astor Place, so hopefully someone got that recorded!

Next year (I hope) we'll be able to perform at the Dance Fest at the end of the Parade. Let us know if you would like to participate (you'll have a while to think about it!)

New Rhythm Locura Project- Salsa!

After Thanksgiving, Simone is planning on starting our next piece- it will be a Salsa performance, and the more performers, the better the piece will look! Anyone who will be willing to commit for a short term ( up to three months only) rehearsal period, with a public performance at the end, please use our Contact us page ( or email directly knnthbing056@gmail.com) to let us know. If you're nervous about performing, don't worry- we have a strict "no dancer left behind" policy! The plan is to be able to accommodate ALL levels of experience, so EVERYONE will be able to shine!

We will be ramping up soon, so don't hesitate- we can't make it fierce without you!!.

OPEN HOUSE! SAVE THE DATE! OPEN HOUSE! SAVE THE DATE!

On Thursday November 10th, Rhythm Locura is having an Open House from 8pm to 9:15 pm for anybody who is interested in joining us for a free class at our rehearsal space. (520 Eighth Ave 16th floor NYC, between 36/37th streets).

Meet our current members! Take a class in two(!) different dance styles! Find out about other learning or performing options!

Light refreshments will be served. Please send a message (via the Contact us page or to knnthbing056@gmail.com) to let us know you are coming. Hope to see you on the dance floor!

We finally premiered our Swing performance!

Well, thanks to the good folks at The Big Apple Ranch (at their new location), Rhythm Locura was able to get its first performance of our Swing piece out of the way! There were some first night jitters (which you may be able to tell), but we all had a great time. Even though it felt like eighty degrees in there (there was a LOT of dancing going on before hand), we didn't wilt under the pressure. We are studying the tapes to perfect a couple of areas of our performance for our next appearance. Thanks again to Jon Lee and his crew for always putting on a fab party! (Check us out in the Performances section).

Our Next performance!

Finally, Rhythm Locura will premier it's new Swing piece at the Big Apple Ranch. The community's favorite two-step/C&W dance party has hosted us in the past, and it's our first appearance in their new space (25 W.31 St. 4th floor)! Join us Saturday Aug. 27th- come early for the dancing (they have Line Dance lessons at 8:30). See you there!

Calling for additional performers!

Our Artistic Director, Simone Assboeck, is looking to stage a large-scale performance piece (probably Salsa), and we are looking to have a bunch of additional dancers to work with our core members. You do NOT have to have any previous performing experience, but you should have some dance experience (beginner levels welcomed). This can be a short-term project, if you can't commit to an open- ended group membership. Please use the Contact Us page to let us know if you might be interested, or if you have any questions. You can also contact Ken at knnthbing056@gmail.com

Looking to hear from ALL of you!
